> From jhr11@hermes.cam.ac.uk Thu Apr 8 14:48 MDT 2004 Date: Thu, 8 Apr 2004 21:44:00 +0100 (BST) From: "J.H. Rogers" Subject: Activity in Jupiter's NEB Hi everyone, The NEB is becoming increasingly active, so it may be useful to give the following list of disturbances presently visible in it. Longitudes are approximate L2 on April 1-7: Main rifted region: L2 ~ 310-360 (Apr.1), 300-350 (Apr.7). Train of dark spots on NEBn*: L2 ~ 340-30. Another sector of NEBn with dark projections developing: L2 ~ 60-90. The little brown spot which appeared in NTropZ around Feb.9: L2 ~ 140. Long-lived white spot Z: L2 ~ 155. Chris Go's new rift which appeared around Mar.28: L2 ~ 230 (Apr.1), 200 (Apr.7). I would not be surprised if this developed into a NEB broadening event during 2004, as in 2000. *This train of dark spots on NEBn was strikingly regular in the last few days. It is similar to the train of spots seen in Voyager images f.the rifted region. The spots may be waves retrograding in L2. They are best shown in the following images: Pellier, Apr.1 (IR and violet; the stated CM2 is wrong); Van der Velden, Apr.1; Fattinazzi, Apr.2; Sanchez, Apr.3; Peach & Sanchez, Apr.6; Go, Apr.8. _______________________________________________ John H.
