> From jr@mole.bio.cam.ac.uk Tue Jan 8 07:32 MST 2002 Date: Tue, 8 Jan 2002 14:14:19 +0000 From: John Rogers Subject: Io on SEB Hi all, Some of the latest superb images from Ed Grafton and Antonio Cidadao are assebled in the attached composite to show two features which they pointed out at exceptionally high resolution: i) Io in transit adjacent to its shadow: in Grafton's images, the reddish poles and bright eq. zone are clearly shown; this must be the best amateur image I have ever seen of Io in transit. In Cidadao's first image also, the bright EZ seems to be resolved but it would need different image-processing to be sure of it. ii) The brown oval ring in STropZ: Now the S.Tropical Band has elongated past it, it appears as a pale oval ring; and it is bright in Cidadao's methane image. (It was also bright in images by Glenn Orton at IRTF in Septmber, but not in later methane images by Akutsu.) Thanks to both of you! John Rogers.
