> From drclay@arksky.org Sun Dec 29 09:38 MST 2002 From: "Clay Sherrod" Subject: ASO Jupiter Patrol - Dec. 29, 2002 Date: Sun, 29 Dec 2002 10:32:45 -0600 A few Jupiter images under very poor/worst seeing conditions; however there are several prominent features that have been reported that are visible here. Hopefully some observers within this network have been able to get some quality images of the interesting areas; note that from images by D. Peach, Ed Grafton and others, the area around the GRS is very turbulent at this time and there are major changes taking place within the GRS and its periphery as well at this time; also note the STC white spots in currents fol. the GRS longitudes that are now seemingly converging and devloping/intensifying in some cases. The longitudes fol. the GRS in the South Eq. Belt zone also bear watching closely as there is much development and activity there as well. jup02_1229 http://www.arksky.org/asoimg/jup02_1229a.jpg Jupiter in very poor seeing; note however the continued intensification of the dark and thick segments of the NTB (2) and the NNTB; also there is a prominent yellowish oval see just fol. the CM in the NEZ in this image. jup02_1229b http://www.arksky.org/asoimg/jup02_1229b.jpg GRS is near the CM in this image with very poor seeing; however there is a suggestion of perhaps a white or bright oval at the pr. end of the GRS which is "blunting" it appearance; note (although poor seeing limits resolution) the white spots in the STC converging into two diametrically opposed pairs. Taken 1h 20 minutes after jup02_1229a. jup02_1229c http://www.arksky.org/asoimg/jup02_1229c.jpg In spite of very odd scintillating air that prevents even focusing properly, this image shows several of the high south (STC) white spots that have been reported and noted in the previous image (jup02_1229b); also note near the CM the two very bright spots within the SEBzone which have been reported as a disturbance within that belt fol. the GRS.
