> From sherrodc@ipa.net Tue Nov 26 23:32 MST 2002 From: "Clay Sherrod" Subject: The GRS Eddy Feature. Date: Wed, 27 Nov 2002 00:27:49 -0600 The heads-up response of this group of observers is amazing and all deserve much "atta-boys" for work well done. There is a sequence of images taken also on November 23, 2002 at ASO that show the GRS rotating from pr. limb to following limb ( 3 images ) all of which clearly show the distinctive "eddy current" that is presently over-riding the northern edge/boundary of the GRS; since this feature is likely temporary and newly developed at best, it is important that we examine all images to understand the rapid changes in morphology. Since these images were obtained in good conditions and do show a four-hour elapsed time, I think that it is worthy for me to point them out again now that the Alert has been issued regarding this feature. They are posted at the Arkansas Sky Observatory (ASO) website at www.arksky.org and were reported to ALPO early on the morning of November 23. They can be obtained under the "Planetary Patrol" archives under that date, or at the direct links which demonstrate this four hour period are attached for those receiving attachments. This is, in essence, why we devote hourly monitoring of Jupiter at ASO. Clay ---------------------------------------- Dr. P. Clay Sherrod sherrodc@ipa.net Arkansas Sky Observatory MPC/cbat Obs.
