In this talk we will describe the research directions we are pursuing within the NETWORKS group at BCAM. We will first give a short introduction on stochastic processes and optimal stochastic control, which represent the main building blocks in the construction of mathematical models used in the analysis of communication networks. We will then introduce several examples of ongoing research in areas like stochastic scheduling, scheduling in wireless systems, queueing theory and algorithmic game theory.
