This talk is concerned with new models for phase transitions in elastically deformable solids driven by configurational forces. As an example, we study an initial boundary value problem for one of these models, which is an elliptic-parabolic coupled system. We define weak solutions by using two well-known concepts of weak solutions, i.e. the notion of weak solutions defined by integrating by parts and the notion of viscosity solution proposed by Crandall and Lions. Then we prove the existence of weak solutions.
